PLEASANT
HILL, Mo. – A metro police officer is dealing with the tragic loss of
his wife. The Pleasant Hill mother went into a coma one week ago
following a single car accident. Now her family is leaning on their
faith to deal with their loss.
Kora Parks was a substitute teacher and a loving mother. Her
husband Nathan is a Kansas City police officer. "We met at her
boyfriend's going away party and we became friends," Nathan Parks said.
He married the woman of his dreams in July of 1998. "Kora lived
everyday like it was her last day. She had such a big heart," Parks
said.
On Nov. 28, everything changed. Kora, 30, was headed to a
substitute teaching assignment when she lost control of her car on
Milton Thompson Road. "It's a sharp corner it comes up on you quick,"
Parks said.
Every night, Nathan stayed with his wife at the hospital. "It
was a roller coaster ride. Every morning about 8:35 or 8:40 she would
usually take a turn for the worse," Parks said. She died of her
injuries six days later.
"The strength comes from knowing that God is in control of my
life," Parks said. Nathan and Kora’s picture perfect love story is
evident on their myspace page. So is their love for the two children
they adopted into their home. "Kora just wanted those kids to have a
good life. A Mom and Dad that would love them no matter what, and they
had that and now they don't," Parks said.
Nathan is now leaning on family, friends, and his faith in God
to deal with his loss. "The night before the accident we sat down and
prayed and Kora prayed for god to use her. So I've not questioned one
time during the entire thing why this happened to Kora," Parks said.
The family has donated Kora’s organs so that she can continue helping
others.
Instead of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Parks children college fund at New Life Church.
